Important Announcement from Gerald Binks

Budgerigar.co.uk is arguably the most popular, in depth, source of website information servicing the world of budgerigars. It has a massive amount of daily viewings and content, to fanciers from over 70 countries. Nothing, as yet, has surpassed its quality, both in terms of presentation and detailed articles.

This website has been the latest in a long line of devoted efforts by myself, to raise the standards of the hobby to higher levels of quality and credibility. I refer to my authorship of “Best in Show”, published in 1974; the founding and early editing of Budgerigar World Magazine in 1982; The magnificent Budgerigar World Shows at Sandown Park Racecourse in the 80’s, which are still to this day referred to as “The Finest Ever Staged”; and the writing of The Challenge in 1997 and 2006, which the fancy is kind enough to refer to as “the bible” for this specialist subject. Finally, of course, the creation of this website to which I now wish to refer.

The Future of Budgerigar.co.uk

I have realised for some time (since the failure of the Budgerigar World Magazine (BW) owned by Gwyn Evans and his fellow directors), that the hobby, yet again, needs a credible source of quality information (but larger than I personally can manage, because of my age), to replace BW in any form of a magazine. New high levels of editorial volume are required from an experienced source and such editors are rare in our field. As the readership is currently aware, Terry Tuxford, the former Editor of BW, has been assisting me of late and the time has come when he takes full charge of the editorial side, with me acting in a consultancy basis if he has difficult queries to answer.

2013

From January 2013, I wish to announce that there will now be TWO LINKED websites; budgerigar.co.uk and budgerigarworld.com. Budgerigar.co.uk continues as my personal website, now being developed by Greg Kendall (who has been so instrumental in his visionary ability in the development of the original website). The greater part of the existing website will now be transferred, including the advertising, across to Terry Tuxford and both of these linked sites will be seen in January 2013. I will personally be contacting all existing advertisers in the meantime (knowing the readership will increase still higher), before transfer to Budgerigarworld.com

Conclusion

After 67 years, helping the hobby in many ways to better itself and reform radically (mostly without success if one is honest), I have a desire to return to the show bench, beginning in 2013. I feel the time has arrived to do what both my wife and I want to do for ourselves, as long as our good health permits. I doubt if any of those I have tried to help will, for once, not begrudge me this time for “Gerald Binks”. My focus is now to relax and focus on breeding top winners and showing them and enjoying the company of friends and fellow fanciers to the full.

Note:

Terry Tuxford possesses hundreds of superb articles that have accumulated before the demise of BW magazine in a manner which was alleged by the hobby as unethical, and of great sadness to me as founder. I now feel that with this new development, former subscribers can find some recompense in this computerised, free of charge “magazine”, under the Tuxford editorship again.

Terrry Tuxford however, wishes it to be fully understood that, in using the domain name of “budgerigarworld.com” which he owns outright, at no time has it had any connection to Gwyn Evans, The County Press or BW Magazine. He was only employed by Gwyn Evans as Editor of BW. Perhaps, because you will get all this at no cost, some fanciers will find it reasonable to take out small, new rate promotional adverts, under a new structure Terry will publish as soon as possible.

A good question. Back issues of BW available on EBay is a good source. Terry also writes for Cage and Aviary Birds and is the current Editor of the Budgerigar – The BS Magazine.
